OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS
In a comprehensive study conducted in 2008, a statewide survey was undertaken to assess the living conditions of families across Lagos State. The findings revealed that a significant number of families were living below the poverty line, with an alarming average household income of only $20 per month. This survey included a total of 8,117 households.
Among these households, 2,797 were specifically selected from slum areas within the state. Notably, all individuals surveyed were born in Lagos State. The data indicated that a substantial proportion of these households had members originating from specific regions within the state: 91.5% from Epe, 84.7% from Ibeju-Lekki, and 81.9% from Badagry.
Under these prevailing circumstances and particularly affected are the women and the children. The mothers are denied access to basic health facilities and many children have dropped out of schools with no hope of having basic educational opportunities in life.
To address these pressing issues of inability of the large population, to access essential life necessities, the International Centre for Family Advancement (ICFA) was established.
ICFA is dedicated to implementation of programs, including providing opportunities for free health programs and empowerment initiatives, particularly focusing on women within families.
Additionally, the organization embarked upon educational initiatives, including scholarships for children who have dropped out of schools, to enable them develop their potential and secure a brighter future. The Centre firmly believes that education is a fundamental human right.
ICFA advocates that every child, irrespective of their background or circumstances, should have the opportunity to expand their understanding of the world and improve their knowledge base.
